The Story of Palmaira Sandals Australia

Palmaira Sandals began in 2013 when founders Lisa and Tracey set out to give the traditional Menorcan Avarca sandal a modern, fashion-led twist and introduce these iconic handmade Spanish sandals to the UK.

Starting with a humble market stall in London's Spitalfields, the brand quickly gained a loyal following. A feature in Vogue magazine sparked overnight success, and Palmaira Sandals soon became synonymous with beautifully crafted, authentic avarca sandals made on the Spanish island of Menorca.

Bringing Authentic Menorcan Sandals to Australia

That same time in 2013, sisters-in-law Jenn and Gem discovered Palmaira Sandals while visiting the UK for Jenn's wedding. They immediately fell in love with the exceptional craftmanship and timeless style of these authentic Menorcan sandals and knew Australian women would appreciate their comfort, quality and heritage.

Determined to bring genuine avarca sandals to Australia, Jenn and Gem partnered with Lisa and Tracey and launched Palmaira Sandals Australia.

In early 2014, they imported their first 40 pairs and began selling to family and friends through Facebook, markets and Palmaira Parties. As the business grew organically, they introduced exclusive designs, leathers and combinations inspired by the Australian lifestyle, creating styles loved by Palmaira girls across the country.

A Decade of Style, Craftmanship and Community

Over the next ten years, Palmaira Sandals Australia flourished, celebrating many milestones along the way, including being named a runner-up in the Australia Telstra Awards. Throughout the journey, one thing remained unchanged - a commitment to offering beautifully crafted women's leather sandals that combine comfort, quality and effortless style.

A New Chapter

In late 2025, Palmaira Sandals Australia entered an exciting new chapter.

Today the business is proudly owned by Clare and based in Brisbane, Queensland.

Passionate about preserving the rich heritage of the traditional avarca sandal, Clare is dedicated to continuing the values that have always defined Palmaira - exceptional craftsmanship, authentic Menorcan heritage and outstanding customer care.

Every pair of Palmaira Sandals is handcrafted in Menorca using traditional techniques passed down through generations and carries the official Menorcan seal of approval, guaranteeing authenticity and quality.
